Community Advisory Board meets to design the 2026 funding process
Participatory budgeting is a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. It gives people real power to make real decisions over real money. Since its launch in 2021, King County’s Participatory Budgeting program has invested more than $20 million in projects and programs chosen directly by residents—returning power to the community.
In 2026, the Participatory Budgeting program puts residents in Skyway/West Hill and White Center/North Highline in charge of deciding how $2.7 million in county funding will be invested directly in the urban unincorporated areas of Skyway/West Hill and White Center/North Highline.
The 2026 Participatory Grantmaking Community Advisory Board (CAB) convened in early July and has dedicated countless hours to designing a funding process that reflects the priorities, values, and voices of the community.
Meeting weekly through work sessions, committee meetings, and collaborative discussions, CAB members are thoughtfully developing every aspect of the community-led Request for Proposals (RFP). Their work includes identifying funding priority areas, establishing funding guidelines, developing application requirements, creating proposal evaluation criteria, and designing a fair, transparent, and equitable proposal review process.
This work represents a remarkable commitment from community members who have volunteered their time, shared their lived experiences, and worked collaboratively to ensure the funding opportunity is accessible, inclusive, and responsive to local needs.
The goal is to release a 2026 Participatory Grantmaking RFP in late August, marking an important milestone that reflects the dedication, leadership, and vision of the Community Advisory Board. Their efforts are helping ensure that community members—not government alone—play a meaningful role in shaping how investments are made in Skyway/West Hill and White Center/North Highline.
We thank every CAB member for their passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving their community:
