Welcome to the Cedar River Capital Investment Strategy Online Open House!

Flooding is the most common and expensive natural disaster in King County. While flooding occurs naturally on the Cedar River, we can take steps to reduce risks to people, homes, and public infrastructure.

Since 2017, the King County Flood Control District (District) and King County, as service provider, have used the Cedar River Capital Investment Strategy (CIS) to implement flood risk reduction projects and programs. The District and King County will update the CIS over the next two years due to changing conditions—like the damaging February 2020 flood—and new opportunities.

The updated CIS will guide future projects to reduce flood risks while meeting other needs of the community such as supporting salmon recovery, improving recreation, and more. Your input matters and will help shape the updated CIS. Take our survey today! We want to learn about your experience with the Cedar River and what your priorities are for its future.

Participate in the project

There will be multiple opportunities for sharing input as the Cedar River CIS is being developed. These will include this online engagement hub, comment period, and CIS project team attendance at community events.

Opportunities to participate will be posted here when they are available. You can also sign-up for email updates.

How we will use your input

Along with this online open house, the project team will conduct other outreach activities to receive input on the Cedar River CIS. Once the survey has closed at the end of 2025, King County and the King County Flood Control District will review your input and share a summary of comments here and will share out via email alert. Your input will be used to help identify project and programs that address flood and habitat problems.

What’s next?

  • King County, with partner and community input, will develop a draft list of projects and programs for reducing flood and erosion risk on the Cedar River.
  • After developing the draft list, King County will prioritize projects and programs into near-, medium-, and long-term actions that address flood risk and provide other benefits, such as improved habitat.
  • King County will come back to the community for input on the draft list in late 2025.
  • You can participate in engagement opportunities during these steps.
